Musings by Sarah Brynteson
Hi, I'm Sarah Brynteson — mom, astrologer, and intuitive psychic guide, and the voice behind Written in the Stars. I help individuals understand their own energy through their birth chart, and I have a special love for helping parents understand their children's energy, too. I'm a graduate of the Debra Silverman School of Astrology, a former middle school teacher, and someone who believes, deeply, that dreams become reality when we choose to make it so. I write musings about topics that feel important to me and hopefully helpful to you as well!
Summer is here and with it comes opportunity for new ideas and questions to be answered. Some I have been thinking about are:
I have some questions for you that I have been pondering myself:
What makes you feel creative?
How do you show that creativity?
What have you been itching to do that you keep putting off?
Are you wondering why I’m asking these questions?
Well, there is a big shift that is about to happen on June 30th that may give you a boost of creativity and inspiration that will last a year. Jupiter, the planet that expands all things, is entering the creative, dramatic, childlike sign of Leo and will be there until July 26, 2027.
My hope in this article is to share with you a little bit about:
What Jupiter energy looks like in our charts
What it may feel like in Leo
How to apply it to your own chart
A practical example of how I am seeing it in my own chart in real time
What is Jupiter energy for our charts?
Jupiter in our Solar System is the biggest planet we have. A while back I saw a post on Facebook that gave an amazing visualization of just how big Jupiter is.
In astrology, Jupiter represents the energy of expansion, growth, and opportunity in our charts and in transits as he moves across the skies. It takes about eighteen months for Jupiter to move through a sign and about 12 years to come back to where he was when you were born. When you have your Jupiter Return, it is said to be a time of great blessings. When I had mine, I planned something special that I loved because I wanted to expand that area of my life with joy. You are welcome to do the same when it is your Jupiter Return, too, if you wish!
It is said in astrology that Jupiter represents the good in things, even if it is a harder aspect — like a square or an opposition — being reflected in your natal chart or in the transits to your natal chart. There is something of a blessing possible in whatever area of life (otherwise known as houses) Jupiter is moving through. Jupiter invites the spirit of discovering new things, philosophies, wisdom, and meaning in life. The energy Jupiter gives us is one of optimism and confidence — that we can say "heck yeah" and it will all work out. There is also an ethical side to Jupiter that invites us to have a moral compass, codes, and rules while leaning into our principles and beliefs.
When I was in Debra Silverman's School of Astrology, she called him "Santa Claus" because of this gifting and good-in-all-things feeling. I believe this to be true. I also believe that if we do not take Jupiter up on his invitation for expansion, he can take it or leave it as well. We get to decide how much expansion we want to have. He is an all-in kind of energy for me, and we need to be willing participants in the hand he is helping us play.
How could this work while Jupiter is in Leo?
Before I dive into what Jupiter in Leo may feel like, I feel it is important and responsible of me to put it out there that nothing in astrology is based in isolation. There are different energies playing out in the world every day, and it is up to us — with our free will — to decide to access them or not. Planets do not do things to people; people do.
Now that I have put that disclaimer out there, let’s talk about Leo and build the story of what Jupiter may feel like in that sign on its own.
Leo, as an archetype, is warm, bright, charming, dramatic, childlike, confident, generous, motivated, and creative. When we have planets in our natal chart in the sign of Leo — or in transit talking to our natal chart — a sense of fun could come through as energy. A desire to be bold, glamorous, or even sparkle.
With the good can come the challenging. At times, the energy we can receive from Leo can also show up as arrogance and self-centeredness. We can find our pride hurt, especially if we are feeling overlooked or not paid attention to. The good news? Just knowing it is there is half the battle. If you notice yourself feeling overlooked or slipping into "look at me" energy, that awareness is your signal to pause and ask: what do I actually need right now? Usually it is acknowledgment — and often we can start by giving that to ourselves first.
Whenever the Moon is in Leo, I always share the idea of acknowledgment vs. praise, which I think fits in well here. When we acknowledge how people make us feel, it hits differently than when we say "good job." It lasts longer. One of my favorite quotes from Maya Angelou is: "People will forget what you said. People will forget what you did. But people will never forget how you made them feel." This is true acknowledgment in my eyes. Don't you think?
Leo is one of four fixed signs, with the others being Scorpio, Aquarius, and Taurus. The trait most commonly talked about with fixed signs is that they like what they like and want what they want. Typically, a strong fixed sign person will only change their mind if they find it necessary — keep a pin in that one for the practical example I’ll share further down.
The Sun rules Leo in astrology and is often pictured with a lion or a king. Jupiter is the Roman name for the King of the Gods, also known as Zeus in Greek mythology. In mythology, when Zeus wanted something, he went and got it — that has been the hallmark of all his myths. In some respects, that is also the energy I believe Jupiter in Leo may give us: the desire to go for something and figure out a creative way to make it happen. This could show up in headlines as much as in our personal lives — from grand gestures to extravagant ideas. There is a warmth, much like we feel from the Sun, that will be amplified as well. Again, it is our choice whether we are going to access it and how to use it.
How to apply it to your own chart
Like Uncle Ben told Spider-Man: "With great power comes great responsibility." How will you use the great power of this energy moving through the Leo part of your chart responsibly?
To answer that, it helps to know where Leo is in your chart. Yes, you have Leo in your chart. Yes, it is also possible you may not have any planets in it!
If you do have planets in Leo, Jupiter's presence may expand the energy they already give you.
And if you have nothing in the sign of Leo — that is very normal, by the way — you are still very much in this.
The house that Leo rules in your chart is still getting the Jupiter treatment: the expansion, the creativity, the invitation to go bigger. Having planets there just adds more voices to the conversation.
No planets simply means the energy of the house itself gets to take center stage. Sometimes that is actually a beautiful thing.
If you do not have your birth chart handy, you can cast one for free by going to https://astro.com. You will need to know your birthdate (Day/Month/Year), location, and time of birth. Yes, exact time matters — you cannot find out what house or houses Leo is in for you without it. If you do not know your exact time, there are some ways to figure it out. I share about it here:

Once you have your chart cast, you want to see where Leo is. On the charts that Astro.com provides, it looks like this symbol:
From there, you can look at what themes by house this may show up for you using the chart below. If you have planets in Leo, Jupiter will expand the energy of those.
This is also true as Jupiter crosses the four main lines we look at in your chart: the Ascendant (AC), Descendant (DC), IC, and MC. When Jupiter was in Taurus, he crossed over my AC — and I noticed that my waistline expanded a bit. After all, the AC is the gateway to how people see us. That does not mean it will be true for everyone with a Leo Rising, by the way — just something to be aware of!
Other ways this could show up in your life: if Leo is in your 7th house, Jupiter may bring expansion around partnerships — romantic, business, friendships, or anything you deem contractual. (Note: your own children do not fall in this category, just as a heads up.) This could look like a relationship starting or deepening, a new opportunity to partner up coming in, or a clearer sense of what you want from the people you choose to walk alongside.
Likewise, if Leo is in your 10th house, this is career and public life territory. Jupiter there could feel like a nudge — or a shove — toward stepping into a more visible role or finally going after something you have been quietly dreaming about. Whatever house it is for you, the invitation is the same: expand into it.
Practical example
To help with seeing how it may show up in your life, I thought I would share how it is showing up in mine. I look at astrology as a series of cycles. As I shared above, Jupiter takes 12 years to revisit any sign or return to where it was at the time you were born.
The last dates that Jupiter was in Leo — so you can look at your own cycles while I share mine — are:
August 18, 1990 - September 12, 1991
August 1, 2002 - August 26, 2003
July 16, 2014 - August 11, 2015
June 30, 2026 - July 26, 2027
This is the part of the article where I share what house system I use when I look at charts for myself, my family, and my clients. I use Placidus, an uneven house system. Why? For one, it was how I was taught. For two, I feel like it blends the energies in a way that makes sense to me. How you read a chart is completely up to you and/or the astrologer you like to work with!
For me, Leo starts in my 4th house and rules my 5th house. So the areas of life that will be felt for about a third of the year will have themes around home, family, parents, security, ancestors, private self, emotional foundation, and possibly a mother or mother figure. The rest of the year may feel like the themes of pleasure, creativity, children (or childlike joy), creative arts, how you have fun, and so on.
It took this Facebook post for me to realize that I am truly living this in my own life.
If you do the math, I am sharing that we did our kitchen remodel in the summer of 2014 — right when Jupiter was moving through my 4th house. The house of the literal home in my chart. Why did we decide to do it then? Well, in April of 2014, our cupboard fell like this.
While we were not home at the time, my best friend Gina, who was taking care of our cat Moonlight, sent me this picture near the end of our vacation. Thankfully, the stack of books and things caught one side and only one china teacup was broken along with one wine glass.
This led to several months of us not really having a cupboard or a functioning kitchen. Remember that pin I told you to keep earlier? Yes — this is that moment. It frustrated me to the point that we decided to fix it. Right before this happened, we had just signed paperwork for our bathroom on the same level to be updated. Why is this funny? Pretty much the next day after signing, this happened. So while Jupiter was finishing his time in Cancer and moving into Leo, my entire 4th house, we were fixing ours to make it work better, feel safer, and bring joy.
It was not without difficulties. First, we were told the sink could not be placed where it is — I said they would figure it out because we had a drop ceiling in the basement and I had great faith in them. Guess what? They did.
In 2026, this theme continues. Also in 2014 — according to the timestamp of this picture, at least — we moved from a ¾ bath downstairs to a full bath with the addition of this beautiful tub. It is an acrylic, claw-footed tub that has only been used five times over the last 12 years. Why? We didn't know what we were doing and didn't have the money to do it correctly, so it was just a pretty thing to have in our bathroom.
Until now.
Now we are in the middle of a bathroom renovation simply to bring it up to code. How very Jupiter — right in line with the ethics and codes I mentioned earlier! By the end of the summer, fingers and toes crossed, that beautiful tub will sit in this room and we can use it to the fullest.
How will the rest of the year look? Time will tell.
I am releasing my first book, Between Worlds, on June 21, 2026 — just ahead of Jupiter's move into Leo. It is a book about Persephone's journey navigating the space between who she has been and who she is becoming, and it is for anyone who has ever felt like they were in the middle of their own transformation without a map. Persephone's voice is finally heard through these pages and I am so excited for you to hear her for yourself. I plan to write the companion to it this summer into fall. The creative juices are surfacing and I fully intend to answer that call.
What will your Jupiter in Leo story be? That is up to you! Looking back at the years I mentioned above may be helpful in identifying the possibilities. Thinking about what you are ready to expand — creatively or with childlike joy — may also be helpful. If your natal Jupiter is in Leo, doing something fun around the days it is exact is a beautiful way to welcome the new energy of your personal 12-year cycle.
