How Jupiter in Cancer reminds me of Hamilton the Musical

What a bold statement, right? Two things you may never put together—yet I’m about to. Just you wait!

How Jupiter and Hamilton are not that different.

On Sunday, June 8, 2025, the original cast of Hamilton performed a powerful 10-year anniversary piece at the Tony Awards. If you missed it, I’ve linked it here:

Who is the person pointing in the freeze frame? That’s Christopher Jackson, who portrayed George Washington. His performance carried a softness, a sense of joy often tinged with sadness, and a steadfast desire to do what’s right for the greater good.

So… what does that have to do with Jupiter?

Great question!

Jupiter is known as one of astrology’s two “benefic” planets (the other is Venus). This just means he tends to bring blessings, even when he's forming those tough connections (like squares or oppositions) with other planets.

Jupiter’s like Santa Claus—he brings gifts and opportunities, then steps back and lets you choose how to use them. Just like Washington presenting Hamilton with the responsibility of shaping a new nation through his words, Jupiter offers ideas, insight, and expansion. It’s up to us to decide what to do with all that potential.

Expansion, Freedom, and Feeling

Jupiter rules two signs: Sagittarius and Pisces. In Sagittarius, he expands thought, boundaries, and the search for truth. In Pisces, he deepens our spiritual and emotional waters.

During the Hamilton musical, while the spotlight shines on Alexander Hamilton, George Washington leads with vision. He doesn’t cling to power. Instead, he steps away with dignity, singing:

The end of the song shares with us the words "George Washington is going home, teach them how to say goodbye"

This brings me back to Jupiter.

Jupiter is going Home

On June 9, 2025, Jupiter moved into Cancer, the sign where he’s said to be at “home.” In astrology, a planet being “home” means it feels most aligned and able to express its energy fully.

So I invite you to pause. Close your eyes. Imagine what home feels like for you.

Here’s what it looks like for me: Fresh-baked cookies. The laughter of my kids. Hugs from my husband. Phone calls with loved ones. Snuggles from Elphaba (our black cat) and Max (our hound mix). That’s my Jupiter-in-Cancer feeling—imprinted in my body and heart.

What’s yours?

Now picture Jupiter entering that space. Expanding it. Blessing it.

Cancer: Home, Heart, and Healing

Cancer is the archetype of nurturing, intuition, and emotional safety. With Jupiter in Cancer, we’re invited to grow through softness. Through mothering (not smothering). Through “feeling it to heal it,” as one of my mentors says.

This is a year to:

  • Trust your gut

  • Tend to emotional roots

  • Build spaces (inside and out) that feel safe and sacred

Flashback: The Last Time Jupiter Was in Cancer

It takes about 12 years for Jupiter to make his way around the zodiac. If you're in your 40s like me, you may be able to tap into the last two times he visited Cancer. They are 2013/2014 and 2001/2002. Here are some examples of what those years were like for me:

  • 2013/2014: I left teaching and shifted into remote work, which later led to launching my first business.

  • 2001/2002: I was pregnant with our first child when 9/11 happened. As a teacher, I had to hold calm for my students. As a mom-to-be, I remember holding my belly and whispering, “I will always be there for you and protect you.”

Jupiter in Cancer expands that sense of emotional safety—on both a personal and collective level.

So, What Might This Mean for You?

  1. Look back at those years: What was growing?

  2. Look to your birth chart:

    • Where is your natal Jupiter? That’s how you naturally receive expansion and luck.

    • What house does Cancer occupy in your chart? That’s where Jupiter is expanding things now.

For example:My natal Jupiter is at 19° Aries in the 12th house. That’s my daily Jupiter “vibe.” Right now, Jupiter is traveling through my 3rd and 4th houses.

This is how I know him on the daily and the "fixed" point where he can talk with the other planets still moving in the sky.

Then look to see where Cancer falls in your chart. This is the space he’s activating now.

If you wish to take it a step further you can see if anyone is already hanging out in Cancer in your chart. If there are planets there, he gets to sit down with them and maybe pen some new ideas, like Hamilton did for Washington.

If you have planets in Aries, Libra, or Capricorn, he’ll be talking with them too—though it may be a little “challenging” at times. Remember though, even in challenge, Jupiter tends to bring something good.

If you have planets in Scorpio or Pisces, there could be an easier connection. Likewise, Jupiter will love to dance with planets in Taurus and Virgo while he is visiting Cancer.

That’s what it’s like as an astrologer when you sit down with me. We help you figure out the dance going on in the sky and how it activates the chart you were born with.

Taking it a step further—we can look at the area of life he’s highlighting right now in Cancer. I invite you to look at your chart to see where that is. Yes, everyone has Cancer in their chart, even if you don’t have any planets there. (Don’t worry if you don’t—I don’t have any planets there either!)

In my membership, Between the Moons, II share themes based on Rising Sign (also called the Ascendant or AC) that may be highlighted. If you use an uneven house system like I do (called Placidus), Jupiter may move through more than one house over the next year:

  • Aries Rising or 0° Cancer  in  4th house: Home, ancestry, family roots

  • Taurus Rising or 0° Cancer in 3rd house: Siblings, communication, daily rituals

  • Gemini Rising or 0° Cancer in 2nd house: Finances, possessions, self-worth

  • Cancer Rising or 0° Cancer in 1st house: Identity, body, life force

  • Leo Rising or 0° Cancer in 12th House: Mental health, spiritual healing, hidden support

  • Virgo Rising or 0° Cancer in 11th house: Friendships, dreams, social circles

  • Libra Rising or 0° Cancer in 10th house: Career, reputation, public life

  • Scorpio Rising or 0° Cancer in 9th house: Travel, belief systems, expansion

  • Sagittarius Rising or 0° Cancer  in 8th house: Shared resources, transformation

  • Capricorn Rising or 0° Cancer in 7th house: Partnerships, collaboration

  • Aquarius Rising or 0° Cancer  in 6th house:  Health, habits, daily service

  • Pisces Rising or 0° Cancer  in 5th house: Creativity, joy, children

Come Sit With Jupiter

In Hamilton, George Washington chose to go home—on his terms. Jupiter is doing the same. He’s offering you a space to come home to yourself, and to grow something nurturing and meaningful.

He has gifts in mind. You get to decide how to open them.

How will you say yes to the gifts?

If you'd like to explore this with me—whether through a one-time session or my monthly membership Between the Moons—I’d love to support you.

If you would like to book using my sliding scale or learn more at the link below.

And me? I’ll be soaking in Jupiter's glow until October 16, 2025, when my husband and I finally see Hamilton in New York. I’ll be the one crying happy tears in the audience.

With love,

Sarah
