One of the things I hear often is - "Isn't astrology complicated?"
My answer is - It doesn't have to be!
So this week, I wanted to share 10 simple ways astrology can be used in your everyday life.
🌞 Greeting the Sun
The Sun and Moon are two of the “big three” in your chart, with the third being your Rising sign. When you go outside or look out your window at sunrise, you’re actually greeting the Sun at its Rising sign. Taking a moment to say good morning, breathe in the air, and feel the Sun’s energy move through your body can be a powerful way to center yourself—before you even glance at your calendar.
🌝 Saying Hello to the Moon
Everything you just did for the Sun, you can also do for the Moon. Whether it’s at dusk, moonrise, or just when you happen to see her in the sky—pause and take notice. What shape is she in? Is she growing into fullness or waning to close the cycle? Does your energy match this waxing (building) or waning (releasing) phase?
🌬Knowing What Element the Moon Is In
Throughout the month, the Moon travels through four elements: Fire, Earth, Air, and Water. Tuning into the Moon’s current element can give you clues on how to ground, calm, or energize yourself if things feel overwhelming.
🔥🌱💨💧How to Work with the Moon’s Element
🔥Fire Signs (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius):Move your body. Dance, walk, stretch, swim, do yoga—anything that gets the energy flowing.
🌱Earth Signs (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn):Get outside. If you’re in a place like Minnesota in winter, place a mat over a patch of grass. Lifting it to reveal the frozen earth can give you a grounded moment—even in the snow.
💨Air Signs (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius):Focus on your breath. Box breathing works well: inhale 4, hold 4, exhale 4, hold 4—repeat 3 times. Or simply step outside, close your eyes, and breathe in the air.
💧Water Signs (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces):Incorporate water. Drink it, bathe in it, swim in it, or listen to wave sounds. We're made of so much water—when we’re depleted, our intuition often is too.
📓 Keep a Journal of Interesting Things
Sometimes you'll catch yourself thinking, “Well, that was weird…” Write it down! Even if it doesn’t make sense now, it might later. We use this technique in my New Moon Circles., and it’s especially helpful during retrogrades as well—tracking patterns can bring clarity.
🧘♀️ Notice: Is This Energy Mine?
We often absorb energy that isn’t ours. Here’s a simple three-step process I use to clear, ground, and protect myself:
Step 1 – Clear: Visualize rainfall or light above your head. Say, “Any energy that is not mine must leave my space now.” Let the light or “rain” move through your body into the earth.
Step 2 – Ground: Invite Mother Earth (Gaia) to anchor you. Picture ivy wrapping your feet, bring your favorite element to surround you, or place your dominant hand on your head with feet flat on the floor. Stay until you feel calm.
Step 3 – Shield: Let the ivy or element rise up around your body like a suit of armor—or imagine Glinda’s bubble protecting you. Anything that helps you feel safe.
I use this before going into stores, stressful meetings, and both before and after client sessions.
🌙 Pay Attention to Your Dreams
Astrology can make our dreams vivid and insightful. If you struggle to remember them:
Do the clearing, grounding, and shielding—this time with your bed.
Step 1: Call back your own energy as well.
Step 3: Let your shield be your bedsheet.
This helps calm the mind before sleep. Then say: “Make it easy to remember any dreams I’m meant to remember.”
In the morning, use voice-to-text or journal anything you recall. It might not seem relevant now, but could later.
🔭 Understand Your Natal Energy
Understanding your own chart helps you better navigate life. Here's how to start:

I don't believe in astrology by Debra Silverman - simple, fun, and easy to use. Her school taught me how to keep it real and not overly technical.
Astrology for the Soul by Jan Spiller - if you're feeling extra affected during eclipse seasons, this book on the Nodes may explain why.
There are also astrology apps. I love Lila, which was created by Steven Forrest.
